About
Among the important composers of the past who made the step from Romanticism to Modernism, George Enescu is the one whose work is least present in the cultural memory. This is in strange contrast to the esteem in which the recording artist, born on 19 August 1881 in Liveni Vîrnav (Romania), was held during his lifetime. Century musicians such as Pablo Casals, Alfred Cortot and Nadia Boulanger met him with admiration, if not reverence. Now the young pianist Daria Parkhomenko, winner of the 2018 George Enescu Piano Competition, has dedicated her first album entirely to this extraordinary and versatile composer and would like to contribute to a long overdue Enescu renaissance.
